House of B is back with their sophomore album “I Hope This Hurts” and held an album release part this past week celebrating it’s release with fellow Eastern Washington area bands Cadejos and Heel Klick.

Opening the evening was instrumental experimental rock band Cadejos, playing off each other through experimental compositions. Each song flowed seamlessly into the next with powerful guitar riffs, never letting the momentum drop from start to finish.

Following up was Heel Klick, a favorite among the younger crowd in the area. Fans packed into Emerald of Siam, crowding the stage to sing along and dance with the band. Heel Klick are the epitome of a DIY, ground-up punk band. Having seen them a few times, it’s clear their fans bring a traveling energy that consistently supports the three-piece, while the band’s performance lights up the stage.

House of B is made of up the Rivera family with patriarch Carl and his two sons Avery and Siris. Having formed during 2020, the family started playing local shows in Eastern Washington, quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Their music starts with melodic guitars, clean vocals, funky bass lines and then will hit you in the face with hard hitting riffs and pounding drums as vocalist Avery Rivera provides deep heavy yells into the mic. Lyrics covering the heavy topics and self reflection that one goes through. House of B is truly a family collaboration, a staple of what makes the band unique as Avery starts playing guitar and the primary vocalist – midway through the set, father Carl switches instruments with his son and takes over the lead pieces of the band. Siris kicks in on the drums with a progressing drum solo as the two switch over.

House of B has progressed continually over the year and becoming one of Tri-Cities the tightest bands you will see play live. You can tell their set-lists are well structured to provide a story and provide a well structured set every time i’ve seen them. There is a never a moment of silence, ensuring any need for a break is filled with a quick jam between father and son or between the brothers.

House of B’s “I Hope This Helps” is a follow to 2022’s “What the Heart Can’t Pick Apart” and is currently available to stream on all major streaming platforms. Catch House of B at Maker’s Space in Yakima, Washington on May 22nd.
